Early Life
Liu was born
on November 8, 1980 in Hengyang, Hunan and his ancestral home is in Wuhu, Anhui
Province. He grew up in Guangzhou, Guangdong, the younger of two children and
his older brother.
When Liu was
still a student, he was the student in charge of entertainment in his class.
Liu Yan enrolled in “Hunan Normal University”, earning a bachelor's degree in “Chinese
literature”.
Hosting Career
Liu joined
Guangdong Television in 1999 as a television host and entered the Communication
University of China in the same year.
In March
2000, Liu South Television took over Financial Report and Green News in
Guangdong. From 2001 to 2002, he toured Guangzhou.
In January
2002, Liu joined Hunan Public Channel and became the host of Public News.
In 2004, Liu
Guanch returned to Guangzhou and became the host of Guangdong, Hong Kong and
Macao on Guangdong Television.
In December
2005, Liu joined Enlight Media.
Acting Career
Liu made her
acting debut in 2008 when she was a supporting actor in the fantasy film Dyed
Skin.
Liu played
the role of Queen Zhangang in the 2009 historical drama The Legend of Guang
Guifei, directed by You Xiaogang.
Liu had a
small role as Meun Mei in the fantasy film Mural (2011), as well as Wong Jing
Marry Mr. She starred in the romantic movie Prefect.
In 2012, Liu
starred in the historical TV series Against the Knife of Honor, adapted from
the wuxia novel of the same name by Taiwanese writer Gu Long. However, the series
has not been aired till now.
After
playing small roles in various movies and TV series, Liu quickly became popular
in China with bigger roles in the commercial box office successes Fury Badges,
The Incredible Truth, Jian Bing Man and I Belong to You.
In 2016, Liu
reunited with “My Love” star Yang Yang Yang in the action drama Martial
Universe. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in
the military drama The Young Marshal.
